Violinist Deborah Strauss wins 2024 ‘Dreaming in Yiddish Award’
Deborah Strauss, the widely praised klezmer violinist and educator, is this year’s recipient of the prestigious Adrienne Cooper Dreaming in Yiddish Award. The ceremony took place on December 25th, 2024 at the Yiddish New York Festival.
Deborah is one of those artists who has been with us for many years, almost since the first editions of the JCF. Together with cantor Jeff Warschauer she performed many times at the festival as the Strauss/Warchauer Duo, preseting concerts of klezmer music. She has a;so conducted klezmer music workshops, which gave birth to an amazing project – the Klezmer Small Stars Orchestra: a musical ensemble in which, in addition to Deborah Strauss, cantor Jeff Warschauer and Sanne Moricke – three long-time participants of the festival workshops conducted by Deborah performed: Oksana Balatsko, Malgorzata Spiechlanin and Zofia Wydra. For this project alone, she deserved this award!
Congratulations, dead Deborah and see you in Krakow!
