Tad Taube: 1931, Kraków – 2025, California
One of the circle of friends has passed away – all grieve. (Talmud, Shabbat 106)
First and foremost, he was and will remain our Friend, and only then the great donor of our Festival.
Born in Kraków – he will remain in Kraków; in our grateful memory and in our hearts. It is often said: “not all of him has died.” And indeed, Tad Taube lives on, for his spiritual, intellectual, and Jewish legacy lives in everything we do, we who were gifted by him with love and trust.
You planted within us and strengthened our pride in our shared Polish–Jewish heritage. You were a brave, noble Zionist who taught that it is not the idea of strength, but the strength of ideas that is of primary importance. We are your students, Dear Tad, and so truly – not all of you has died.
The Talmud says: “The will of the deceased is binding.” (Taanit 21)
Knowing Tadeusz, I know that his will is that we continue along the same path he walked with us, and that we bravely defend the truth about Jewish history and culture. What is more – that we courageously fight against manifestations of antisemitism and against hatred of Israel – especially today. Especially today.
Dearest Tad…
Thank you for having been with us.
Thank you for being with us still.
We are proud to call ourselves your devoted friends.
May your soul be bound in the bond of eternal life.
