לְשָׁנָה טוֹבָה תִּכָּתֵבוּ
L’shana tova tikatevu!
May we be written in the Book of Life for the year ahead!
The Jewish New Year – Rosh Hashanah – is the opening of a new gate. Each time we cross it, we do so with the hope that only goodness awaits us beyond the threshold. Yet today, beyond it, darkness swirls and evil grows stronger. And what of it? There is no sense in cursing or lamenting, and above all, we must not give in to fear. For each of us carries enough light within to scatter the shadows and quiet the heart with peace.
On the eve of the New Jewish Year 5786, let us wish that our inner, spiritual light may take the form of blessing, not of curse. May we, trusting in our own strength, never—despite all darkness—lose hope that the light of truth will, in the end, prevail.
The mighty sound of the shofar heralding the New Year opens the Gate of Mercy. Let us enter it.
May we be inscribed and sealed in the Book of Life for another year! And may it be a good year for us all, filled with mutual respect, love, and peace.
Amen!
