The Jagiellonian Library houses valuable manuscripts, early printed books and other collections, constituting a treasure trove of knowledge about Jews and Judaism. In the 20th century, Professor Zofia Ameisenowa (1897–1967) conducted extensive research there, uncovering unique curiosities for the academic world. She also served as a guide to the Jagiellonian Library’s collections for researchers from around the globe. Her surviving correspondence testifies to her extensive network of contacts and her significant contribution to the development of research into Jewish heritage. An example of this is her correspondence with Gershom Scholem (1897–1982), which will be discussed during the lecture.
