The gates, courtyards and streets of Kraków described in the memoirs of its Jewish residents are set in two distinct spaces – the interwar city and the city after the Holocaust. The former is mythologized, the latter marked by emptiness, absence and the pain of loss. During the lecture, we will examine both spaces, thereby uncovering the palimpsestic structure of the city.
