Jewish dances (PL / EN)

01.01.1970 - 11:00 / Namiot FKŻ, ul. Józefa 36

In 2025, after a long hiatus, the Jewish Dance Workshops returned to the Jewish Culture Festival. This year, we will meet once again in Kraków’s Kazimierz district at the Festival Tent to dance together.

Baal Shem Tov, the founder of Hasidism, believed that God should be praised through song and dance. Hasidim dance in synagogues and on the streets, in houses of prayer and at family gatherings, on holidays and weekdays. And for the four days of the Festival, we will try to experience this spirit of Jewish dance together.

Once again, we will follow in the footsteps of those who led the Dance Workshops at our Festival. They were: Michael Alpert, Felix Fibich, Leon Blank, Jill Gellerman, Steve Weintraub and Avia Moore. We’ll revisit some of the dances we learnt last year, because you can’t have a proper good time to klezmer music without the bulgar, freylekh, zhok or hora. But the workshops will also feature new dances: Jerusalem Hora, Der Yid in Yerushalayim and Ot Azoy.

The best klezmer band will be playing for the dances: Deborah Strauss, Cantor Jeff Warschauer, Zilyin Biret.

Dances led by: Jacek Dymel.

Everyone is welcome: both those who already know these dances and those who want to try dancing in the Jewish style for the first time. We welcome all, young and old!
