My next “opening” lecture will be both a declaration of love and an expression of bitterness—a deeply personal reflection on thirty-eight years spent at the Festival’s gate.
In it, I will speak about the mystery of the forbidden gate, the phenomenon of the Gate of Jewish Life, and the enigma of “my” Kazimierz, which bears little resemblance to the Kazimierz of today. I will lead you into the vestibule of the Gate of the Heart—the most important and indeed the only gate through which one can truly understand the essence of our shared life’s work: the Jewish Culture Festival.
