How Many Gates Were There in the Ghetto? On the Borders and Addresses of the Kraków Ghetto (PL)
01.07.2026 - 10:00 / Galicia Jewish Museum, ul. Dajwór 18
We would like to invite you to a meeting devoted to the gates of the Krakow Ghetto — both the official and hidden ones that marked the boundaries of the closed district from 1941 to 1943. During the event, we will trace the routes leading into and out of the ghetto, analyzing their function within this space.
We will examine the history of the Kraków Ghetto through the prism of its passages. We will talk about the main gates, guarded by the police, but also about the less obvious ones: secret points that allowed escape, seeking refuge, or illegal contact with the outside world. This is a story about everyday life, attempts of survival, and the realities of life on both sides of the wall.
This is an accompanying event organized by the Galicia Jewish Museum in cooperation with the Institute of History of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków.
